The trustees of Chestnut Hill Church are seeking a few good volunteers who would like to refinish some of the exterior doors or some of the pews in the sanctuary.  If you would like to help us out, please contact Terry Miller or Pat and Glenn Snyder.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

BUILDING UPDATE

The Trustees met with the architect on January 24, 2006 to  review the building plans.  The addition of a lavatory in the toddler classroom and the addition of a portico at the rear side entrance were discussed.

The Trustees also had a discussion about hiring a surveyor.  The land must be surveyed before we can sell it.

February 28th, the Trustees will meet to decide on the  surveyor.

This will also be a combined meeting with our financial assistance/grant writing committee.  There will be a discussion about the land sale, a capital campaign, and any other financial details necessary to complete our building project.

Stay tuned for further updates in future newsletters.

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME

It’s time for Chestnut Hill baseball fans and their friends to start planning for our annual Reading Phillies outing.  This year’s game is Sunday, June 11 at 1:05 pm vs the Trenton Thunder.  (The Thunder is a N.Y. Yankees affiliate, meaning we will have to root that much harder for an R-Phils win!)

The price of $16.00 per person includes a reserved seat for the game, and an all-you-can eat buffet from 12-2 pm with BBQ chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, pasta, and potato salads, lemonade, iced tea and Pepsi products.

The first 2500 kids 14 and under will receive a Reading Phillies shirt, and all fans who wish to can run the bases after the game.

No money is necessary now, but tickets are going fast so a “head count” will soon be needed.  Please see Sherri Miller or call (610) 797-8231 ASAP

Support our troops

Lt Colonel Pennie Hoofman is the daughter of Glenn & Margaret Pearson and the youngest sister of Pat Snyder and Peggy Pearson.  It is an understatement to say that the entire family is very proud of Pennie’s accomplishments as she serves in the U.S. Army. Pennie is currently serving at the Guantanamo Naval Base in Cuba.

Pennie is fortunate to have her husband and son with her in Cuba.  They seem to have adjusted to life on an island.

Our “support the troops” mission this month will be a little different for Pennie.  March 25th is Pennie’s birthday.  So we would like everyone to send a birthday card to Pennie.  If you wish, you can write a note, poem, or message to her.

We will send the cards all at once.  So when you have your card ready please give it to Glenn or Pat Snyder.  It takes a number of weeks for mail to reach Pennie, so we will need your cards by the last Sunday of February in the hope that our cards will reach her for her birthday.

Bermuda Cruise

April 19-25, 2007

First Day

Enjoy this cruise sailing from New York on the Carnival Legend.  You’ll love sailing Carnival Legend, one of the most imaginative new ships.  Not only is this floating resort beautiful, she is faster than most other cruise ships.  You’ll love all the amenities, including the two-level promenade and reservations-only supper club.  D-aboard ship

Second Day

Today is a “fun day” at sea. Familiarize yourself with the ship & enjoy all the amenities it has to offer.  B,L,D – aboard ship

Third & Fourth Days

This afternoon we arrive at our first port, King’s Wharf. At the tip of Bermuda’s West End, King’s Wharf features the Royal Naval Dockyard plus the Bermuda Arts Centre and Crafts Market, exhibiting island handiwork.  In nearby Somerset Village, you can see the world’s smallest drawbridge, opening a mere 22 inches, just wide enough to let the mast of a sailboat pass through.  We will depart King’s Wharf late afternoon on Day 4.  B,L,D-aboard ship

Fifth Day

Enjoy another “fun day” at sea.  B,L,D-aboard ship

Sixth Day

Today’s port is Newport, RI.  The Breakers, Mrs. Astor’s 400, Colonel Vanderbilt’s, America’s Cup, yachts racing across Narragansett Bay.  This is Newport, once America’s supreme summer retreat for the rich and elite during the “Gilded Age”.  Today, Newport is a bit more egalitarian, but sleek yachts with billowing sails still race around the bay, and the Italianate mansions built by Stanford White and Richard Morris Hunt continue to dominate the shoreline like graying grand dowagers.  We will depart Newport later this evening.

 B,L,D-aboard ship.

Seventh Day

This morning we arrive in New York with wonderful memories our Bermuda Cruise.

B-aboard ship.
